This is a testimony of what The Father does in everyone who looks to The Son. I hope you enjoy this little story.
As it grew taller the world around began to close in on the little flower. There were thorns and thistles that grew in close and little bugs that tried to eat away at its roots. They lied to it. They said all sorts of things about the little flower that were not true. The little flower listened to the thorns and thistles and believed what they said.
Now when the Creator came to spend time with it, the little flower found that it could not look up at its Creator; it felt guilty and dirty under His gaze. It kept its head down and couldn’t bring itself to look up at The Creator and let Him see its guilt and its rotting roots. Soon the little flower began to droop and became a wilted little plant.
The Creator refused to give up on it. He kept watering the little flower and fertilizing it and trying to help it grow. The little flower was ashamed and turned away from His help. As it fought to grow on its own, The Creator was always there ready to give it water and nourishment, and surround it with a gentle breeze. But the flower was too caught up was its own guilt and was unable to accept the care of The Creator.
One day the little flower, near death, gave up and came weeping back to its creator. The little flower lifted its wilted little face to the Creator and cried, “Dear Creator, I am wilted and sad and I want to grow, but I can’t do it on my own. I am lost and scared. Will you help me?”
The Creator was delighted and promised to help.
The little flower’s heart was too damaged to allow the Creator in as easily as it had when it was a baby flower. The Creator knew this and worked gently to repair the damage and the relationship he had once had with His little flower. He shielded the little flower from the strong winds. He was careful not to drown the fragile little flower when it needed water; He gave the flower sunlight; He fertilized the soil and helped it grow.
“Dear Creator,” the little flower would cry, “I feel as if I am not growing at all! You promised to help me grow but I don’t see anything happening! I am still very small and sickly and I still have no blossoms!”
“Have faith, little flower,” spoke the Creator gently, “I am doing much more in you than you realize…”
In fact, the little flower was growing. But flowers grow very slowly – almost imperceptibly. You cannot see a flower grow. You can watch it and watch it, but you will never be able to say, “This was the precise moment when the blossom appeared; this was when the flower opened up.” No: it is a gradual process. It seems like nothing is happening and then one day you look and the flower has blossomed.
That is what happened to the little flower in this story. One day it realized that it had bloomed. It had beautiful, healthy blossoms stretching their petals out in praise to the Creator. It rejoiced in this and raised its voice in praise to the Creator. But that is not the end of the story…
The thorns and thistles were still around it and the horrible bugs where still there to bombard the little flower. As the little flower’s voice grew louder in praise to the Creator, the thorns and thistles became more and more hostile. They hacked at the little flower’s roots and hacked at its leaves and hacked at its stem. They fought and wounded the little flower. They bruised and battered it. They fought to cripple it and turn its face away from the Creator.
What do you think happened to that little flower? Many times it thought it would fall. A battle was raging around it and it thought it would be torn out by the roots. It cried out to the Creator, perplexed and overwhelmed.
“Help me!” It cried.
And guess what happened? As the little flower kept its face turned toward the Creator, He began to show the flower the depth of its roots. This is what the Creator had been doing when the flower thought nothing was happening – He had been strengthening the roots. He began to show it the great storehouse of strength He had given it, if only the little flower had the courage to use it. He began to show the little flower that it had the strength to stand firm in every storm and to withstand every lie hurled at it by the enemies surrounding it. All it needed was to keep its face turned toward the Creator and accept the nurture He gives.

Look around you: are there any wilted flowers around you? Do you know any flowers who are being battered by storms and lies who are wondering if they can keep shining; wondering if it is even worth it? Pray for those flowers around you. Pray that you can build them up and not tear them down. Pray that they will never lose heart. Pray that they will always be able to believe in the unseen Creator who never fails to fertilize them and water them and give them strength and courage to shine and display the beautiful colors He has given them.
Pray and always keep your face turned toward the Creator.
